The challenge(s) that Mountain2Mountain is addressing:
Afghanistan remains one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a woman. Indeed, in Reuters’ Trustlaw 2011 poll “The world’s most dangerous countries for women”, Afghanistan ranked as the most dangerous country in the world for women. Afghan girls and women continue to face discrimination and inequality, high rates of maternal mortality, low literacy rates, and high levels of violence, particularly domestic violence. Their access to basic services such as education and healthcare remains extremely limited.
Mountain2Mountain is working to protect girls’ and women’s rights and empower girls and women in Afghanistan through a range of programs: girls’ and women’s literacy programs and education, including educational services for deaf girls, outreach programs at women’s prisons, and midwifery and birth attendant training courses for women in rural areas.
