THE CHALLENGE
As the migration crisis continues in the Northern Triangle region of Central America, Friendship Bridge is working harder than ever to increase economic opportunities for women in Guatemala and empower them to build a better life. Poverty, violence, natural disasters, malnutrition, and corruption are just some of the tragic challenges that Friendship Bridge clients face on a regular basis. The compounded effects of COVID-19 have only exacerbated their burdens, leading some to send their loved ones away from Guatemala on a dangerous and costly journey North. As reported by Forbes: The fact remains, as long as conditions at home make life unbearable, people will feel compelled to leave everything behind in search of safety. Friendship Bridge believes families in Guatemala deserve to stay together and have access to economic opportunities that are close to home, sustainable, and safe.
