THE CHALLENGE
Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in Asia, with a third of its population living on less than a dollar a day. Children, particularly girls, are the main victims of extreme poverty and they suffer tremendously from poor hygiene conditions, malnutrition and limited access to basic health services.
A significant number of these girls are out of school and studies indicate that as many as 12% of girls aged between 7 and 14 are engaged in some form of work, instead of attending school*.

The SOLUTIONS WE'RE PROPOSING
W4’s field program Children of Asia runs shelters providing comprehensive care services for girls from poor communities in Cambodia. Our program’s main shelter, located in Phnom Penh and currently accommodating 65 girls between the ages of 4 and 20, has not been refurbished since 1997, and its capacity is therefore diminished. Renovating the buildings by next fall is crucial in order to accommodate more girls for the coming school year.
The shelter (composed of two buildings) is located next to the local public school, where all the young beneficiaries of our field program are enrolled.
The shelter’s refurbishment process will be carried out in two stages:
- More sanitation facilities are needed in the main building, and the building needs to be redesigned to accommodate the needs of small groups of children;
- The second building will become a social space for beneficiaries and team workers, as well as rooms dedicated to education activities, including teaching and practical exercises.
THE IMPACT OF GIVING
Your donation will improve the living conditions of homeless girls by helping to provide them with a safe and adequate environment in which they can get a good education, interact with other children, play, and enjoy healthy meals.
Act now to help these girls to thrive and build better futures for themselves!
WHY FUND US?
Our program’s shelters are crucial to enable our field team to provide poor Cambodian girls with comprehensive, long-term support. In the safe, adapted spaces run by our local team, these young girls have access to schooling support provided by tutors, enabling them to acquire crucial academic knowledge and social skills that will help them throughout their lives.
Our program also provides daily meals and health care, ensuring the girls’ healthy growth and development.
