THE CHALLENGE
In Malawi, maternal and infant mortality rates remain high – 130 babies die out of every 1000 live births and many women continue to face potentially fatal pregnancy and labor complications. Indeed, one woman in 36 passes away while giving birth while one in 20 suffers from fistula.
A lack of sterile medical equipment and trained caregivers accounts, in large part, for these tragic statistics.
The SOLUTIONS WE'RE PROPOSING
By ensuring the availability of essential medical supplies, W4’s field partner, Birthing Project is committed to combating maternal and infant mortality in Malawi. Basic supplies –including medicated soap and a sterile blade for cutting the umbilical cord – are provided to underprivileged pregnant women in the form of a SAFE BIRTH KIT with the aim of preventing or responding to dangerous labor complications.
THE IMPACT OF GIVING
By purchasing a SAFE BIRTH KIT for an expectant mother, you can offer her hope and peace of mind throughout her pregnancy and the birth of her child – a birth during which both mother and child will be better protected from labor complications. Even the smallest donation of €5 can potentially save the lives of mothers and children in Malawi.
