THE CHALLENGE
Every year, hundreds of thousands of women die during pregnancy and childbirth. Tragically, statistics indicate that 33 women die every hour from complications in pregnancy and childbirth.*
Most of these deaths can be prevented. Almost all maternal deaths (approximately 99%) occur in developing countries as a result of poverty and inequities in access to health services (such as inadequate medical facilities and medical supplies, a lack of information and access to skilled health workers).
The SOLUTIONS WE'RE PROPOSING
W4’s field partner, The Birthing Project, is committed to providing essential medical supplies to reduce maternal and infant mortality across developing countries. They provide SAFE BIRTH KITS to underprivileged pregnant women that include supplies such as a sterile surgical blade to cut the umbilical cord, sterile gloves and medicated soap. These basic items have a huge impact in preventing or responding to complications during childbirth.
THE IMPACT OF GIVING
By donating to provide SAFE BIRTH KITS, you are offering expectant mothers the opportunity of a healthy and safe birth of their babies. Even a small donation of €5 has the power to save lives (the lives of both mother and baby) and provide hope and peace of mind to women and their families across the world.
