THE CHALLENGE

Despite the progress that has been made towards gender equality and women’s empowerment around the world, girls and women still face huge barriers at school and in the workplace. For instance, only 5% of the world’s largest corporations’ CEOs are women.

Self-censorship or lack of confidence often leads even the most inspirational and successful women to downplay their achievements. Young women thus have fewer role models to inspire them and help them to envisage and plan their own futures, leaving them uncertain of how to, or even whether they are able to, choose certain professional paths.

Yet countless exceptional, pioneering and inspiring women exist in the world in every field. Their work should be shared and their captivating voices amplified for everyone – girls and boys, men and women –  to hear.

The SOLUTIONS WE'RE PROPOSING

Celles de la Terre is an innovative project created by Adèle, Astrid and Léa, three friends who study together at HEC Paris, working to ensure that exceptional women everywhere are given the chance to share their stories and pass on advice to the younger generation. The project helps to ensure that girls and women today have the inspiration to take the initiative and achieve their ambitions.

Throughout 2016, Celles de la Terre will travel to different countries, including Brazil, Colombia, India, the Philippines, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Morocco, meeting and interviewing inspiring women. The interviewees are chosen based on the bravery, perseverance or excellence that they have demonstrated in their respective fields. These are women whose life achievements have been remarkable, who have faced great challenges and broken down barriers. Their work encompasses entrepreneurship, politics, art, sports, the military, journalism and religion.

The Celles de la Terre team will collect the women’s stories and advice in the form of film interviews. These will be broadcast during their missions to the different countries and at the end of the project a final documentary and accompanying book will collate all of the interviews. An awareness-raising program for the project will also be established to reach out to companies and schools, in association with Empow’HER.
